As part of our Catholic Schools Week celebrations, the final four of our Wii Tennis Championships was held. After a tough back and forth where it was anybody's game, Matt Getz emerged as our school's overall champion. Gavin Berger was in fourth place, Jacob Guerriero was third, and John Guerriero was second.

Elks Essay Winners
Lila Oast, Emily LaRouche, and Mary Grace Duncan are proud Americans, and their essay explains why. The local chapter of the Elks hosted an essay contest title"What makes you proud of America." These three Saint Columba School students hit it with their entries and they now represent our school as their essay goes on to states.

Volleyball Rivalry Continues
As part of SCS's Catholic Schools Week celebration, Monsignor  Lawrence leads his team of teachers against the 7th & 8th grade students. This continued rivalry in this friendly volleyball game left the teachers winning again. This is a three-peat for the teachers.  A great time was had by all, and the students promise they will bring victory next year.

Clyde Peeling's Reptiles Come to Visit SCS
Senior keeper of Clyde Peeling's Reptileland Kathryn Allen visited SCS during Catholic Schools Week. She brought with her many friends from an American alligator to a rattlesnake. Ms. Allen shared with the students tons of information like the difference between a venomous snake and a poisonous snake. She even allowed her friend Penny, the boa constrictor, to be closely inspected by students. Here, Sister Jean wears Penny while Blaise Kissinger wonders why anyone would wear a snake.

CSW Starts with an Open House
Saint Columba School opened its doors to start off the best week of the year aka Catholic Schools Week. Students brought their folks into the school after the Catholic Schools Week Mass and toured them around showing them all the sights and where all the learning happens. New families came as well to register new students for the new school year. Here,  Audrey and her friends took advantage of the interactive poster outside of the second grade calssroom. Kenya Comes to SCS
Saiint Columba got a visit from the NED Show. The show focused on how kindness can influence people as far away as Kenya, Africa. People in Africa struggle to get the basic necessities such as clean drinking water. The NED Show demonstrated that we here at SCS have an impact on other people around the world including Kenya. Annabelle Faus, Sonna Krick, and Chritopher Getz shared with everyone how their kindness can change their school and maybe the world.

First Grades Learns about Our Friendly Neighbor to the North
6th Grade students researched the differences in lifestyles between Canada and the United States. Dominick Rosini and Micheal McIlvried studied the foods of Canada and discovered certain foods only found in Canada. The first grade came to learn what these students found out about Canada's food. Among the food presented, only found in Canada, were Nanaimo Bars, Kinder Surprise, Coffee Crisp Candy, and ketchup chips. Dominick and Micheal discuss here the ketchup chips only found in Canada. The first graders then got a chance to taste this food.

Pre-School is Ready so Let It Snow
Carson Golla gets dressed for the snow by his PreK classmates. Students figured out the perfect sequence on how to get ready for the snow in their winter unit. The students in Mrs. John's PreK class had a wintery blast selecting the proper warm weather clothes for Carson to wear. Carson for sure won't be getting cold any time soon.

St. Columba Follows the Yellow Brick Road
Saint Columba School, as part of our holiday traditions, attended Bloomsburg Theater Essemble's holiday play. This year BTE presented The Wizard of OZ. This festive fantasy included St. Columba's own 5th grader Emily LaRouche. The show also included St. Columba alums Isabel Benfeild, and Anastasia Ferdock. Thanks, BTE for another wonderful Christmas production.

Winterfest!

SCS went Christmas with the annual Winterfest. There were tons of gifts, tons of Dollar Tree items, and tons of festive frolic. Mrs. Luchas did an outstanding job organizing the entire event, from wrapping the Dollar Tree items with other volunteers,  to lining up all the Christmas vendors. Thank you for another great success.

Veterans Day Observed with Civil War Reenactor
Mr. James Faus, a Civil War reenactor, discussed the life and times of a Civil War soldier as part of St. Columba School's Veterans Day observances. He shared his stories, the gear of a soldier of this time, and the sacrifice of a soldier serving his country.

Kindergarten Gets Halloween Creative
The SCS kindergarten computer class has been working on proper hand position of the mouse, mouse movement, click and drag, and double clicking. These new skills were put to use as they painted Halloween pictures using their mouse and computer.

St. Columba Middle School students are competing in The Cyber Robotics Coding Competition (CRCC).  This is the first time this competition has been offered in the state of Pennsylvania. The competition is an online virtual robotics and STEM competition.

Robots and Mr. Webb
Our entire school was thrilled to meet robots of all shapes and sizes in the STEAM assembly.This program even got interactive. Our own Mr. Webb even got to ride one of the robots. This robot can zip around up to 14 mph but Mr. Webb get it at a safe speed avoiding any speeding tickets.

The creator of the Dunce Cap was celebrated at SCS. Blessed Duns Scotus, a soon to be saint, spent his life studying and educating. He invented the famous cap to funnel information into the brain. His invention didn't turn out the way he hoped, but we do celebrate his efforts with our own homemade caps.

St. Columba School enjoyed Halloween with costumes, bingo, and class parties. The students and many of the teachers came dressed in all forms of Halloween fun.
