Mrs. GaughenbaughMrs. Kathy Gaughenbaugh

A 31 year teaching veteran, Mrs. Gaughenbaugh is a product of Catholic education. She currently serves as fifth grade homeroom teacher in addition to chairing the science department and teaching science to middle schoolers in grades 5 through 8. Mrs. Gaughenbaugh has been involved in many committees over the years and has been an Induction Mentor for severa new teachers at St. Columba School.

Mrs. Lori Coombe

Mrs. Lori Coombe is the homeroom teacher for the sixth grade class. In addition to teaching Religion and ILA to the sixth graders, she is also the Middle School (Grades 5 through 8) Social Studies teacher and the school’s Social Studies curriculum coordinator.

Mrs. Coombe coordinates the annual Geography Bee for St. Columba School and is interested in helping to reorganize the Culture Club. She has been attending professional development workshops to support the school’s bullying prevention program.

Mrs. Coombe earned her teaching certificate and a B.S. degree from Bloomsburg University.  A native of the area, she currently lives in Danville with her husband, Chris, and their three children where they are members of St. Joseph's parish. In her free time, Mrs. Coombe likes to spend time with her family camping and enjoying other outdoor activities.   

Mr. Nicholas Gensel

Mr. Nicholas Gensel teaches Middle School (Grades 5 through 8) Math and serves as the Math Coordinator for St. Columba School.  He also teaches ILA to his homeroom. He is very excited to be a member of the Middle School teaching team and he welcomes meeting with parents to discuss their children’s progress.
            Mr. Gensel is a native of the Berwick area and a member of St. Joseph parish in Berwick.  After completing Bachelor’s degrees in both mathematics and education at Bloomsburg University, he was awarded a Master’s degree in mathematics from West Chester University.  Mr. Gensel is very happy to have this opportunity to return to the area to be near family and friends while fulfilling his goal to be a Math teacher.

            In his spare time, Mr. Gensel is an avid sports fan.  But he also enjoys reading classic novels and playing chess.  He looks forward to restructuring the seventh and eighth grade Math program to better address the students’ differentiated instructional needs in Pre-Algebra and Algebra courses.       

 

Mr. David Nevius

Mr. David Nevius teaches Religion to 7th and 8th graders. He is also the Physical Education teacher for students in Kindergarten through 8th grade.

Mr. Nevius has a B.S. in Elementary Education from Bloomsburg University. After having worked for a local company for over twenty-five years, his dream of becoming a teacher has finally become a reality. 

Mr. Nevius has lived in this area his entire life. Prior to coming to St. Columba School, he served as a substitute teacher at local schools including St. Columba and Holy Family, Berwick. He also taught CCD, including Confirmation preparation classes, at his home parish, St. Joseph, Berwick.          

In his free time, Mr. Nevius likes to ride his bicycle and enjoy many other outdoor activities.  Look for him to reorganize the middle school Physical Education Curriculum to offer bowling for 5th and 6th graders and tennis for 7th and 8th graders. He will also serve as moderator of an after school volleyball program.  

Mr. Nevius describes his experience in teaching to be truly gratifying.   He hopes to inspire his students to become as excited about learning and sharing the word of God as he is. Mr. Nevius considers teaching at St. Columba School the fulfillment of his vocation.
